Isabella King

Isabella King is a San Francisco Bay Area based textile artist and painter originally from Cincinnati, Ohio. King maintains an engaged studio practice in San Jose, California while working as a philanthropy professional raising vital funds for San Francisco Bay Area nonprofits.

From 2014 to 2018 King studied Studio Art and English at Wellesley college, a womens’ liberal arts college known for producing the nation's best female leaders, thinkers and creatives. During her final year at Wellesley, she produced a thesis show entitled Woven in Paint featuring works combining painting and reclaimed textiles. She graduated with honors in both majors and was awarded the Kathryn Wasserman Davis '28 Art Prize for Writing and the Charlotte Paul Reese ’38 Prize for short fiction.

King relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area in 2020, where she quickly found a supportive community of artists including a strong contingent of creatives working within the Bay Area’s rich textile and fiber art traditions. In 2022 King participated in Art Builds Community’s Downtown San Jose residency and public art initiative, “The Womanhood Project: Anonymous No More.” Supported by the San Jose Office of Women’s Policy, this ongoing project commissions artists to create works honoring women who have contributed to the vibrancy of the Bay Area and made positive impacts on their communities.

In 2023, King was awarded the Leigh Weimers Emerging Artist Award by the Rotary Club of San Jose and unveiled her first solo show at The Mill, a coffee shop and gallery space in San Francisco. Most recently, her work was featured in two group exhibitions celebrating innovative artists currently working in California: 2023 Made in California Exhibition at Brea Gallery in Orange County, California and 2023 Left Coast Juried Exhibition at The Sanchez Art Center in Pacifica, California.
