Artist’s Statement

Untethered explores the crucial space that exists between an end and a beginning. A space of limbo not meant to be occupied for long, but which many of us were forced to inhabit and grapple with at length. Through the combination of textiles, punch needling, and gestural painting the artist evokes the feeling of living in limbo untethered from a former life and in search of an anchor around which to build something new.

Isabella King is a Bay Area based multidisciplinary artist who primarily works in painting, textiles and soft sculpture. Originally from a small town outside of Cincinnati, Ohio, she attended Wellesley College in Massachusetts where she graduated with honors in Studio Art and English with a concentration in Creative Writing. After graduation, Isabella relocated to Hawaii where she resided for nearly three years. During the pandemic Isabella relocated to the Bay Area.
